Cheers!
Harmanpreet Kaur, the winning skipper of India Women says that it was a great day for them and they did really well with their bowling. Claims that they discussed in the team meeting about Deepti Sharma’s performance in the last game as she was not happy and the bowling coach helped her therefore she got the rewards. Mentions that Richa Ghosh has been great for them and she is doing well which is good as she is s dangerous batter who loves to express herself. Ends by saying that she is happy with what is happening so far and next game is important so they want to continue the rhythm.
As Hayley Matthews went off the field injured, Shemaine Campbelle, the vice-captain of West Indies Women comes up for the interview. She says that they did not start well with the bat and something around 140 would have been a good total. Adds that going ahead one of their top three batters need to bat deep and they need to finish well too. Credits Karishma Ramharack for her bowling effort and says that she is an important part of the team. Informs that there is no update on the injury of Hayley Matthews.
Deepti Sharma is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for her brilliant bowling performance. She says that she feels good about her performance. Adds that she had some specific plans for different Windies batters and it worked out in the end. (Talking about taking 100 T20I wickets)Tells that it is nice to achieve a milestone like that, but she just wants to contribute to the team and that is her main aim. Mentions that the wicket was turning and she focused on attacking the stumps which got her the rewards.
Time for the presentations...
West Indies Women will be ruing the opportunity they had early in the game as they started well despite losing skipper Hayley Matthews early. Shemaine Campbelle and Stafanie Taylor added 73 runs together but they lost a few wickets in quick succession which pegged them back quite drastically. Chedean Nation and Shabika Gajnabi looked to push the scoring but were unable to help their side cross the 120-run mark. Deepti Sharma was the pick of the bowlers for India Women taking three scalps and getting to 100 T20I wickets thereby becoming the first Indian to achieve this feat. Renuka Singh and Pooja Vastrakar were also impressive with the ball and together they made the job quite easy for their batters.
India Women started the run chase strong with Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana scoring 28 runs in the first two overs from the pacers but they found it difficult once the spinners came into play. Smriti Mandhana was dismissed playing a rash shot and Jemimah Rodrigues could not carry her form from the last game into this match. When Shafali Verma holed out in the deep it looked like West Indies Women may find a way back into this game. Harmanpreet Kaur got together with Richa Ghosh and added 72 runs for the fourth wicket to take their team close to the finish line. Harmanpreet Kaur did give her wicket away but Richa Ghosh is showing how much she has matured as a cricketer.
Richa Ghosh is India Women's designated finisher! Another comfortable win for India Women as they seal their second win of the campaign winning this game by 6 wickets with 11 balls to spare. West Indies Women did start the game off well but could not sustain their performance and have now lost 15 consecutive T20I games in a row. This is their eighth loss in a row against this opposition and their World Cup dreams now lie in the balance with their second defeat in as many games. Karishma Ramharack was a revelation though as she claimed two wickets for 14 runs in her four overs. Hayley Matthews was also good with the ball but the pace bowlers were taken for plenty. They do have massive issues with Stafanie Taylor and Hayley Matthews both leaving the field with injuries.
