Right then. That's all for today. We will be back with the live action between London Spirit Women and the Oval Invincibles Women on Tuesday, the 15th of August. The match will commence at 7:30 pm IST (2:00 pm GMT). Do join us for the early build-up as well. Until then, take care and cheers!
Tammy Beaumont is the Player of the Match for her excellent knock. She says that it was a good wicket and that they set a good total on the board. She added that she used the breeze and played to their strengths. She credited Alana for bowling a good spell and ended by saying that she felt that if any team could chase that it was their opposition today. She also mentioned the brilliant catch by Sophia Dunkley.
... Stay Tuned for Presentations ...
Earlier in the game, Tammy Beaumont won the toss and opted to bat first on a used surface and this decision turned out to be a highly positive one. The skipper herself was in sublime touch and Sophia Dunkley supported her well. Dunkley did fall but Beaumont kept on punishing the opposition bowlers. Sarah Bryce played a handy knock and this allowed Beaumont to notch up an unreal century, the first ever of The Hundred Women and that took her side to the biggest total ever in the competition's history as well. Kirstie Gordon and Alana King bowled well for Trent Rockets Women but the others went for plenty. Coming to the chase, Trent Rockets Women did hang on for a bit and kept their hopes alive but once the wickets started to fall, their run rate never recovered.
It was always going to be a tough ask for Trent Rockets Women to chase this one down but they did begin well with the bat. Bryonny Smith was in full flow and Lizelle Lee too got a few boundaries away. Once Lee fell though, Smith too fell and then the wicket of their skipper made it almost improbable for them to get the win. Harmanpreet Kaur did stick around but couldn't get in full flow. In the end, they lost the game by a sizeable margin.
End of a brilliant game, one that was dominated by the batters but the bowlers of Welsh Fire Women did their job brilliantly and the home side has clinched up a fairly comfortable win here. The home side also zooms to the top of the points table. Having put on 181 runs on the board, Welsh Fire Women only needed a sedate start with the ball but conceded 15 runs in the first set. However, Claire Nicholas bowled really well and created dot-ball pressure. The wickets did come and Sophia Dunkley got Natalie Sciver-Brunt out with a sensational return catch, putting a brake on any comeback hopes. They managed the game well from there on and got over the line.
