Chepauk Super Gillies beat Salem Spartans by 52 runs
Right then, that is it from this exciting game where Chepauk get the better of Salem but the action in the Tamil Nadu T20 League continues as we have our first doubleheader on 14th June, Wednesday. The first game will be between Madurai and Nellam which will start at 3.15 pm IST (9.45 am GMT) and in the next match Dindigul will take on Trichy. The first ball will be bowled at 7.15 pm IST (1.45 pm GMT), until then, goodbye and cheers!
Pradosh Ranjan Paul is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his match-winning knock of 88 runs in just 55 balls.
Earlier in the game, Chepauk posted a mammoth total of 217 runs thanks to a splendid half-century from Pradosh Ranjan Paul and good contributions from Narayan Jagadeesan, Sanjay Yadav, and Baba Aparajith. Their bowlers backed them superbly as well with Baba Aparajith, Bhasker Rocky, and M Viju Arul all getting a couple of wickets each while S Harish Kumar, Rahil Shah, and M Silambarasan chipped in with one each. They were one step ahead of their opponents at all times and registered a 52-run win to start their campaign.
Salem knew that they are chasing a huge target and they needed a good start to make a game out of this but they never really got going. They lost Amith Sathvik V P quite early while Akash Sumra managed to play a few lusty blows but they kept losing wickets at regular intervals which proved to be the downfall for them in the end. However, Muhammed Adnan Khan did play a good little cameo of 47 runs off just 15 balls but did not get any support from the other end. They will take the positives from this game and come back harder in the next one.
A convincing victory for Chepauk! They have started their season just where they left last season as joint winners of this trophy. They have absolutely outplayed Salem in all aspects of the game and the huge margin of 52 runs will also help their NRR which could be crucial in the back end of the tournament.
