India Women beat Sri Lanka Women by 39 runs
It has been a wonderful tour of Sri Lanka! India Woman dominated most of it except for a blip where the Sri Lanka Woman skipper won the hosts a special game in the T20I series. It has been exciting and we thank you for being a part of this journey. Goodbye and cheers!
Harmanpreet Kaur, the India Women captain wins the Player of the Match as well as the Player of the Series awards. She says she felt it was a great game and she is happy that they won the game. Mentions that they only thought about taking singles initially as it was was important to play the 50 overs and credits Pooja Vastrakar for batting really well. She thanks the sports staff and says it was their first tour without Jhulan Goswami and Mithali Raj and they hope they can keep the good work going. States they have done really well and they want to prepare for the upcoming tournament.
Sri Lanka Women captain Chamari Atapattu says the dropped catch cost them the game and the batters struggled in the middle overs. Credits India Women for the way they played and adds Nilakshi de Silva played really well. Says she has been playing well but she needs to score big. Also praises Rashmi for the way she played.
Time for the presentation...
The problem for Sri Lanka Women was none of their batters pressed on after getting off to a start. Their top order played well but they needed one or two of them to play a big innings and that was not the case. They kept losing wickets at crucial intervals and in the end, they have fallen well short. Nonetheless, they will be quite happy with the batting display having not been able to cross 200 in their previous two ODIs.
They did not begin their defense all that well as Chamari Atapattu gave Sri Lanka Women the perfect start but the spinners in the middle overs did a really good job. Rajeshwari Gayakwad was excellent and picked up 3 crucial wickets and was ably supported by Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma. Pooja Vastrakar and Meghna Singh chipped in with 2 wickets each and did well. Overall, it was a complete effort from the bowlers to close the game and sweep the series.
Quite a convincing win for the Indians and they have completed the whitewash. To be honest, India Women batted themselves to a score which was quite above par courtesy Harmanpreet Kaur and Pooja Vastrakar following which their bowlers did their job.
