Sydney Sixers beat Adelaide Strikers by 59 runs

Right then, that is it from this one-sided affair as the Sydney Sixers get a comfortable win here. However, the action in BBL 12 continues on 18th January, Wednesday as the Perth Scorchers take on the Hobart Hurricanes to claim back their top spot. That game will begin at 2.10 pm IST (8.40 am GMT). As always, you can join us in advance for the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!
Steven Smith is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his brilliant century. He says that he got a little bit lucky in this game. From there he got in his groove and kept going hard, while Kurtis Patterson played a great supporting role. Adds, he is able to hit more through the off side and apply more power with the hits on the leg side. Informs the atmosphere was lovely and it is usually in these shorter grounds you can feel the fans around.
Earlier in the innings, after being asked to bat first, Sydney Sixers posted a huge total on the board thanks to the maiden BBL hundred from Steven Smith and some good contribution from Kurtis Patterson and Jordan Silk. In reply, Matthew Short and Alex Carey tried their best for the Adelaide Strikers with the latter scoring a half-century, but they did not get any support from others. With a huge total to defend the Sixers bowlers were perfect and completed the job to avenge their previous defeat.
Sydney Sixers will be extremely happy with their bowling effort here. Ben Dwarshuis gave them a good start as he got rid of Travis Head in the third over. After that they did suffer an onslaught from Matthew Short and Alex Carey, but once Todd Murphy sent the former back to the hut, they did not let the foot off the gas. They picked up a few more wickets in the middle to put more pressure on the batters and finally Ben Dwarshuis dismissed Carey with an perfect yorker. They knew that was the game for them, and got rid of the tail quite quickly after that. Steven Smith was everywhere in this game as he resulted a run out and took a brilliant catch as well. Ben Dwarshuis and Todd Murphy took six wickets among themselves, three each while Steve O'Keefe picked up a couple and Sean Abbott got the last scalp. It was a great all round performance from them and they look like a dangerous side for the other teams.
Adelaide Strikers did not get the start they were looking for as they lost Travis Head quite early. However, Matthew Short continued his good form and played a quick-fire knock but got out when he was finding the gaps on a regular basis. He and Alex Carey steadied the ship for them. After the wicket of Short, Colin de Grandhomme  came in a smashed a first ball six to give them some hope, but he too ran himself out in the same over. Carey kept losing partners on the other end, and he too crumbled under the pressure of the asking rate just after getting to his half-century. In the end, no other batter could get going and they fell short by 59 runs.
A clinical performance from Sydney Sixers! They get their fourth win a row and go on top of the table for now. The game was set up by the hundred from Steven Smith in the first innings and in the end the total proved to be too much for the Adelaide Strikers.
