Juan James the winning captain of South Africa Under-19 says he is pleased he did not have to bat because he was nervous. He adds that they spoke about going for the win and thought Scotland scored a bit too much but Steve played the way he did and Dewan finished the game off well. He further adds that after 15 overs in the chase, they decided to go at it and had nothing to lose. He talks about finishing on the top of the table and playing in this venue which is also a home game kind of advantage with 5 games in a row and hopefully uses it to their advantage. He then says that he knows the batting lineup is capable of doing things like this game and is pleasing that it came off. He concludes that getting the spinners some game time in this game was good and thanks the crowd for the support.
The losing skipper of Scotland Under-19 Owen Gould says that it's a bitter pill to swallow and hats off to South Africa Under-19 for a special chase. Adds that when a player is in such a mood it is hard to get him out as he sees the ball like a beach ball and this was the case with Stolk today. Mentions that today they played a good game of cricket in the first half but were taken apart in the second. Credits Jamie Dunk's hunger to score runs and adds that he is an asset to the side and teams love such talents.
Steve Stolk is the Player of the Match for his outstanding knock of 86 of 37 balls. He says he is feeling very ecstatic and says it was a team effort. Adds that Scotland batted well and posted a good total but they had no plans of getting it done so fast but he was feeling good and got the push from his opening partner Lhuan-dre Pretorius. He then adds that they needed the net run rate to go high and it was a great chase. He then says it's an amazing feeling for him to be doing it for the nation. He concludes that he is very proud of the team and the way they played and if they keep going like this they can bring the trophy home.
Earlier in the day, after being asked to bat first Scotland Under-19 managed to post a challenging total in front of the young Proteas, thanks to a brilliant knock of 97 by skipper Owen Gould and 91 runs by a gun batter in Jamie Dunk. The duo added 115 for the 3rd wicket partnership in just 125 deliveries. Uzair Ahmad played a crisp cameo of 23 off just 8 deliveries as well. The bowlers did not have a good outing and were hammered all around the park after the first 10 overs. Kwena Maphaka and Riley Norton took 3 a piece while Sipho Potsane took a wicket as well.
The bowlers of Scotland Under-19 did not start well and were blown away in the hurricane named Steve Stolk. Qasim Khan went for plenty as he was hammered away for 34 in an over from Steve Stolk and couldn't catch up from that as he gave away 54 in his 3 overs. The bowling overall wasn't up to the mark and they were given a harsh check on the difference between the quality of the two sides. Nikhil Koteeswaran did manage to pick up a couple while Adi Hegde took 1 as well.
Chasing down a good total the Proteas were off to a blistering start. Steve Stolk came out all guns blazing as he peeled the skin out of the leather and the Scottish bowlers. The first powerplay extracted 126 runs with just 1 down. The aggressive approach of Steve Stolk was too hard to handle for Scotland Under-19 as he smashed 86 off just 37 deliveries before eventually perishing. Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Tristan Luus did get starts but couldn't convert them and got out cheaply. It was the 4th wicket partnership of 122 runs in 82 deliveries that finished off the game and landed South Africa Under-19 at the top of the table in their group. Dewan Marais batted brilliantly for his 80 off just 50 deliveries while David Teeger too played a good hand of 43 runs.
An excellent inning from the young Protea Steve Stolk puts the hosts into the Super Six stage and in some style, as they top the group. An excellent knock of 86 from Stolk set the tone right from the front putting the brilliance of Jamie Dunk and Owen Gould in vain as the hosts advance to the Super Six stage after defeating Scotland Under-19 by 7 wickets and a good chunk of 23 over yet to be bowled.
