Bangladesh has all the momentum as we now head to red-ball cricket. The two-match series will commence on Thursday, 31st March and Day 1 of the first Test between Bangladesh and South Africa will begin at 1.30 pm IST (8 am GMT). But as usual, the build-up will begin much earlier. Do join us for the same. Till then, it is goodbye from this side.
Tamim Iqbal, the skipper of Bangladesh, says that he is a very proud man right now and is very happy that a fast bowler has won the player of the match as well as the series. He thanks all the coaching staff for working hard with their pace bowlers. Tells that this is a massive win for them and certainly one of the best moments in their cricketing history. Mentions that they take a lot of pride in playing ODI cricket and have defeated almost all the teams in this format. Applauds Shakib Al Hasan for staying in South Africa in spite of his family being hospitalized back in Bangladesh. Says that the fans have been amazing and they are surely their team's 12th man. He hopes that his side plays well in Test cricket as well.
Temba Bavuma. the losing skipper of South Africa, says Bangladesh were better in all departments and they showed that in the series. Adds, they have to go back to the drawing board and do their work. Tells that their intensity in the India series was very good but against Bangladesh, it was nowhere near good. Mentions that the individuals have to ask questions to themselves if the Indian T20 League distracted them and should not give that as an excuse. Admits that they need points to qualify for the World Cup and rather than taking steps forward after beating India, they took a couple of steps backward and hopes to come back stronger in the next series.
TASKIN AHMED IS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH AS WELL AS THE SERIES. He says that he is very happy and proud that they won the series and tells, it is also his first player of the series award. Adds that he has been following the process for the last couple of years and it is working for him. Tells that he likes to follow his process by keeping things simple. Mentions that he has been working hard on his length since the time he landed in South Africa.
... Stay tuned for the presentation ...
Honestly, nothing to write for the home team. After that horrific batting performance, the bowlers did not create many chances. Apart from the wicket of Liton Das, there was a dropped catch on the very first over but after that, it was all flat. Kagiso Rabada, South Africa's premier bowler, was taken to cleaners by Tamim Iqbal, while there was nothing much from others as well. It was a day to forget for South Africa. It was a bad toss to win for Temba Bavuma.
It looked like South Africa did not arrive for the decider. They were defeated in all departments. It was the bowlers who put on a show, the hero of the hour, Taskin Ahmed bowled probing lengths and the Proteas had no answers for him. South Africa were bundled out for 154 and their batters had all the momentum with them. Das and Tamim Iqbal had a composed start and once they found the groove, both started to hit boundaries at will. Tamim Iqbal brought up his fifty in quick time while Das complemented him nicely, he failed to reach the landmark but did all the job for his team. Shakib Al Hasan came and played around to take his team home. A fantastic day, a fantastic performance and a fantastic series for Bangladesh as they win the ODI series 2-1.
HISTORY HAS BEEN CREATED! The Bangla Tigers have roared on the African desert...Bangladesh win their first ever ODI series against South Africa in South Africa. The crowd erupts at the SuperSport Park and there will be huge celebrations happening in the Bangladesh camp. They have totally outclassed the hosts here and the celebrations will go on for a long, long time.
