Says that she still keeps wishing that they can qualify for the playoffs. Credits the bowlers to keep Gujarat to a par total as the conditions were not easy for the bowlers. Time for Presentations...
Ellyse Perry is up for a chat She says that It would be amazing if they could just speak about Sophie Devine. Says that she is happy to be on the same team as Devine. Adds that She is a pretty unique player, and not many players can do it. Mentions that Sophie Devine is a team player. Adds that they have had some difficulty establishing themselves in the competition. Closes by saying that she is glad to see Smriti Mandhana get among runs and happy with the way Sophie Devine played today.
Gujarat skipper Sneh Rana is up for a chat She says that she is short of words right now, but adds that this is what it is and it's a game of cricket. Mentions that it was a good total on this pitch to defend but they didn't bowl up to the mark that cost them. Adds that they thought of continuing with the momentum and that's why sent Sabbineni Meghana as she is an explosive batter. Closes by saying that they will get out of it and shall come back stronger in the next match.
Earlier in the day, Gujarat got to a fine score of 188 on the back of Laura Wolvaardt's fine fifty and handy knocks from Sabbineni Meghana and Ashleigh Gardner. Harleen Deol and Dayalan Hemalatha gave the finishing touches but it wasn't enough for the day. Shreyanka Patil was the pick of the bowlers for the Bangalore side. We have witnessed a Sophie Devine storm at the Brabourne and this has certainly lit up the Women's Premier League.
Not much to talk about the Gujarat bowling. They were taken to cleaners all around the park and had no answer to Sophie Devine's power-hitting. Kim Garth and Sneh Rana were the pick of the bowlers as they took a wicket each. The rest of the bowlers went over 15 runs to the over and had a poor day in the field. The road becomes difficult now for the Gujarat side going ahead and they have lost their fifth game and are languishing at the bottom of the table.
A thumping win for Bangalore as they beat Gujarat by 8 wickets with over 4 overs to spare. Chasing 189, Sophie Devine and Smriti Mandhana got their side to a rocketing start as they made 77 inside the powerplay. The duo put on 125 inside the 10 overs before Smriti Mandhana was dismissed for 37. Sophie Devine was in fantastic form tonight as she bludgeoned 99 off 36 balls with 9 fours and 8 biggies. Ellyse Perry and Heather Knight completed the final formalities and took their side over the line with 27 balls to spare.
