Right then the night ends with a thriller as Pretoria Capitals gets their second win of the campaign after defeating Sunrisers Eastern Cape by 3 runs. The next game of the tournament will be between Paarl Royals and Durban Super Giants on 26th January. The game will be live from 9.00 pm IST (3.30 pm GMT) but you can join us an hour early for the build-up. Till then cheers!
Eathan Bosch is the Player of the Match for his 4 overs with 1 wicket and 11 runs. He says it's pretty unexpected but is happy to have contributed to the cause. He further talks about playing against some of the best players in the world and says it is pretty special to put up his hand up and contribute to the win. Adds that the team had their backs against the wall and they put up a great fight and hopefully they carry the momentum going forward. Credits Daryn Dupavillon and says he was sick last week and to have come back and hold his nerve at the end makes it special. Closes by saying that they will keep moving forward and look to win further matches to qualify for the playoffs.
The victorious skipper of Pretoria Capitals Wayne Parnell is up for a quick chat and he starts by crediting Daryn Dupavillon as he came in clutch right at the end. Adds that the side was down mid-way but they knew that if they kept the Sunrisers Eastern Cape at bay in the powerplay they would crumble right at the end. Mentions that they knew they were playing two teams closer to them in the table and then DSG so they'll be taking one game at a time and see how they go from there. Credits Adil Rashid as the match-winner for them and says that he keeps on finding a way for the side benefit.
The losing skipper of Sunrisers Eastern Cape Aiden Markram is up for a chat. Says it was not a 130 sort of wicket but exceptional bowling from both sides has made it an exciting game of cricket. Adds that they plan to have more intent at the start as that keeps the team on the front foot. Mentions that they often find themselves in such situations with the points table but will look for a quick turnaround in the next game. Concludes by saying that that such low-scoring games can also be great entertainment for the crowds.
Stay tuned for the presentation ...
Earlier in the day, after being asked to bat first the Pretoria Capitals were in a sorrowful situation early on as they lost 5 for 52 after the first powerplay. A solid 6th wicket partnership between James Neesham and Shane Dadswell of 52 than dragged them back into the contest but they ran out of gas again with a flurry of wickets to end their innings. The decision-making of the Pretoria batters was poor and that was reflected in those couple of run-out dismissals. The bowlers of Sunrisers Eastern Cape had a good outing as they never let a partnership get big on them and look threatening. Marco Jansen was the pick of the bowlers with 3 to his name while Daniel Worrall took a couple as well. Liam Dawson and Aiden Markram took a wicket each too.
The bowlers had a miraculous outing as they had pinpoint accuracy today and executed the plans to perfection for the first time in the tournament. Skipper Wayne Parnell and the leggie Adil Rashid were key to the fight back with the ball and both ended with 3 wickets each. Daryn Dupavillon picked up a couple while Eathan Bosch took a wicket as well. The side though almost gave it away at the end but Daryn Dupavillon held his nerves and ended the innings with a couple of yorkers helping the side win this close affair.
Chasing down a low total, Sunrisers Eastern Cape got off to the worst possible start losing 3 in the powerplay scoring just 22. The top-order failed miserably. The side were 4 down in a flash having scored just 32 on board inside 9 overs. It was the youngster Tristan Stubbs who stood tall for the majority of the game. Stubbs did build a partnership with Patrick Kruger and managed to put up 40 together for the 5th wicket. The side though lost their way again with wickets in a jiffy in the second half of the game and fell behind the Capitals. It was a late surge from Liam Dawson who kept the hopes of Sunrisers Eastern Cape alive till the last delivery with some lusty blows but was not able to take them over the line. Tristan Stubbs was the lone warrior who fought hard and scored 35 before perishing. Liam Dawson played extremely well for his knock of 29 at the end. Patrick Kruger too batted well for his 22.
A brilliant low-scoring thriller ends in favor of Pretoria Capitals as they have won this by 3 runs. Pro-active captaincy, well-complimented by an excellent bit of bowling performance has helped the Capitals sensationally win the game.
