Right then! Rohit Sharma collects the trophy and as usual, hands it over to the youngsters in the team. He moves aside and the celebrations begin. That is all we have from this Test match as well as the series. We hope that you enjoyed the coverage. There is a lot of cricketing action happening around the globe for you to cheer. But from here, it is goodbye!
Rohit Sharma, the victorious skipper of India, says it's been a good run so far. Adds that Ravindra Jadeja is getting better and better every day and is a gun on the field as well, he is happy to have him. On Shreyas Iyer, he says that he is grabbing his opportunity and is carrying his form in each format. Tells, he was filling the big shoes of Pujara and Rahane and he has done brilliantly so far. On Rishabh Pant, Rohit says that he is getting better every day as well. During the England series as well, it was his approach and confidence that helps him to get better. On Ravichandran Ashwin, he feels he is one of the greats of the game and laughs by saying he has many years left in him. Mentions, it was the third pink-ball match in India and they are still learning to play that. Appreciates the crowd in the end.
Rishabh Pant is the PLAYER OF THE SERIES. He says, he enjoys both batting and keeping and needs to evolve and improve in each game. Adds that the wicket was difficult to bat on, so he thought of scoring quick runs. Tells that he is happy to bat wherever the management wants. Mentions that he is more confident about his keeping now.
Shreyas Iyer is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH. He says that when he saw the batters struggling, he made sure that he will take on the bowlers and play with their minds. Adds that he is really happy with the score that he got and is happy that it came in a winning cause. Tells that he has no regrets and is enjoying his batting. Says that he always wanted to play Test cricket for India and feels lucky to be playing alongside the greats of the game.
Dimuth Karunaratne, the skipper of Sri Lanka, says he would have been happier if they won the match. Adds that he was confident to make a big score here. Tells that they batted well in patches and in bowling as well, they gave away many loose balls. When asked about Suranga Lakmal, he says that he was one of the best bowlers he has seen and wishes good luck to him in the county.
... THE PRESENTATION ...
Axar Patel is up for a chat as well. He laughs and says he does not think too much as he knows that Jadeja and Ashwin will do most of the work. Adds that he asks other bowlers regarding what kind of pace is suitable on each wicket. He wishes the best to Ashwin who will play for another team in the upcoming Indian T20 League.
Ravichandran Ashwin is up for a quick chat. He says, he does not think much about his accomplishments. Adds, it was a challenge as they were playing a pink-ball Test after a long time. He was enjoying his bowling and was taking time to settle in. Tells that he works hard before delivering the ball. Mentions that Ahmedabad's pitch had more bounce, while here there was more spin. He also appreciates Dimuth Karunaratne's batting. On the wicket of Kusal Mendis, he says they had runs on the board and he was trying different things to take his wicket and it was one of those days where it worked for him.
It was a Test that was dominated by the bowlers, in spite of those knocks from Shreyas Iyer and Dimuth Karunaratne. India opted to bat first on a slow track and it was Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant who made sure that they post a competitive total on the board. Then, it was the Indian bowlers who bundled out Sri Lanka for their second-lowest score against the hosts in Test cricket. They conceded a lead of 143 runs in the first innings and India took full advantage of that in their second innings. The Indian batters contributed well in the second innings as they set a huge target of 447 runs in front of Sri Lanka. Well, chasing those many runs on such a tricky surface was always going to be a challenge. Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis came out with intent but they didn't get much help from their teammates. As a result, Sri Lanka fell way short of the target but Dimuth Karunaratne's hundred will surely go down as one of the finest knocks played on Indian soil.
India had to pick 6 wickets in the second session to win the match and their bowling attack has been sensational to wrap things up rather quickly. Although, it was Dimuth Karunaratne who stood strong in between India's victory and it was one of the best knocks played on a tricky wicket. It was Ravichandran Ashwin who picked up four wickets while Jasprit Bumrah finished with three wickets to his name. Karunaratne was delaying team India's win but then came Bumrah who knocked his middle stump over andthen, it was only a matter of time before they were bowled out. The only positive for Sri Lanka apart from Dimuth Karunaratne's hundred was that they went past the 200-run mark for the first time in the series.
Another thumping win for India as they defeat Sri Lanka by a whopping 238 runs and seal the Test series 2-0. They have outplayed the Lankans in this Test as well as the series and apart from Dimuth Karunaratne's scintillating hundred, nothing has gone the tourists' way in this Test. India have been just too good for their opposition and they also grab 12 crucial points in the World Test Championship cycle.
