Man of the Match
Cameron Green
Commentry
That is it from this game! The 2nd T20I is going to be played at Nagpur on 23rd September. The match will start at 7 pm IST (1.30 pm GMT). But as always join us early for the build up. Cheers!
Cameron Green wins the Player of the Match for his all-round performance. Green says he was thrown to open the innings but having Aaron Finch at the other end, helped him stay calm. Applauds the innings of Hardik Pandya and says it was a luxury to watch how India batted but that also gave them an idea of how to chase. Shares that he has no idea if he will open the innings further and will leave it up to the coaches to think about that.
Aaron Finch, the captain of Australia says that it was a good contest. Adds that some really good partnership and good contest with bat and ball. Mentions that when they lose wickets the run rate comes down a bit but the way Matthew Wade and Tim David batted, that was really good. Tells that they love winning and they want to execute their playing style before the World Cup.
Rohit Sharma, the skipper of India says 200 is a big score to defend. Adds that the batters did brilliantly to get to the score but the bowlers were not upto the mark and the fielding did not help as well. Mentions that the dew was not a big factor and credits Australia for the way they batted. Tells that it is a good ground to play and getting 60 runs in the last four overs is gettable. Adds that the plan was to take the wicket of Matthew Wade or Tim David but that did not happen. Ends by saying that they will need to look at themselves and come back stronger in the next game.
Matthew Wade is up for a chat. He says it is a good feeling and credits Tim David for his effort as well. Adds that in this pitch, the required run rate is not a worry as the outfield is very fast and you back yourself to get a couple over the ropes. Mentions that he has worked to hit shots all around the park. Tells that it was always the plan to send Cameron Green to open and says he is a great player and can be a brilliant all rounder for the Australian team. He praised Steven Smith as well.
...Presentation coming up...
Earlier in the day, India registered their highest ever score against Australia in T20I, thanks to fine innings from Rahul, Pandya and Yadav. In reply, Australia got off to a blistering start. Green took the limelight in the first half of the innings and later it was Wade's match-winning innings that helped Australia get over the line.
India had a big score to defend but it was the fielding department that didn't help them. Green, Wade, and Smith, all were dropped once and all three players made some kind of impact. Other than that, poor death-bowling execution kept India at bay. There was a moment at the halfway mark where it felt India will get some momentum but Wade's brilliant innings didn't help it. Apart from Axar Patel, everyone leaked runs. All in all, India dearly missed Jasprit Bumrah.
The way Aaron Finch started the chase (with a six), the intentions were very clear. It was but the blinder from the young, Cameron Green that silenced the crowd. Boy, he played a sumptuous innings of 61 runs off just 30 balls. After his wicket, Australia did get off the track as the middle order failed to make an impact but that is when the deep batting line up came into play for the Aussies. Matthew Wade showed his experience and he along with Tim David's cameo helped them chase the huge score in style. Not to forget, Smith's cameo that helped Aussie keep the required run rate in check. A wonderful chase by Australia and they will be really happy with the start to the series.
The visitors have made a mockery of this huge score. A little bit of stutter in the middle phase but other than that, it was an exceptional chase from Australia who go 1-0 up in the three-match series. This is second-highest successful chase by Australia in T20I.
