JIMMY PIERSON IS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH FOR HIS QUALITY KNOCK. He says that it wasn't easy to start but is happy to chase the score against a good Melbourne Stars side. Adds that the bowlers did a fair job to keep the Stars around the 160 mark. Shares that he is pleased to see Max Bryant among the runs and hopes for a good season for him.
Melbourne Stars had a reasonable score to defend but they failed to hit their straps and get any breakthroughs in the powerplay. Marcus Stoinis and Hamish McKenzie were the only wicket-takers while the rest were taken for plenty. Earlier today, Melbourne Stars were asked to bat first and they posted 162/6 with runs from Sam Harper and handy knocks from Webster, Joe Clarke, and Marcus Stoinis while Mitchell Swepson and Xavier Bartlett were the standout bowlers for the Heat. Brisbane Heat were without many of their first squad players and will be delighted with this win while the Melbourne Stars have slumped to their second loss in a row.
A comprehensive run-chase from the Brisbane Heat sees them defeat the Melbourne Stars by 8 wickets with nearly two overs to spare. Chasing 163 for the win, the Heat started well with Jack Wood and Jimmy Pierson who added 55 for the first wicket. After the departure of Wood, Matt Renshaw came in and added the impetus with some quick runs while Max Bryant played his part by scoring an unbeaten 36. The star of the chase was Jimmy Peirson who held the innings together and played the anchors' role to perfection. He finished with 72 off 56 and steered his side home with ease.
