Jaffna Kings beat Galle Gladiators by 23 runs
That is it from us! Thisara Perera collects the trophy and celebrates with his team. Congratulations to Jaffna Kings for defending their title. That was all from the coverage of the Lanka Premier League, 2021. We hope to see you around next time. Until then, goodnight and take care!
Thisara Perera, the skipper of Jaffna Kings, says that he is really honoured to lead this team. He adds that they were confused after a good start by Galle but 200 on the board helped them. He adds that the tournament was better than the last time and tells that it can get even better next time. He finally applauds all the people who have helped Lanka Premier League to become so successful.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa, the skipper of Galle Gladiators, says that he is very satisfied with the effort his boys have put in. Tells that he is hopeful that they will come back stronger in the next season. Credits Danushka Gunathilaka by saying that he played really well. Mentions that he is very thankful to all the people who were involved in making this Lanka Premier League a success.
Avishka Fernando is the Player of the Match as well as the Tournament. He says that he has done his best and is extremely pleased about it. On being asked his preference, given he opened in this tournament but is forced to bat in the middle for Sri Lanka, Fernando tells that he likes to open the batting and he has enjoyed doing that in this tournament.
Stay tuned for the presentation!
Right then! Jaffna Kings were favourites on paper to lift the trophy and they have now delivered on the field. Jaffna Kings' players are taking a winning lap around the ground and good amount of credit should also go to their skipper, Thisara Perera for the way he has led this team and contributed with both bat and ball at crucial junctures.
Jaffna Kings' bowlers had a big total in their kitty to defend and that allowed them to come back into the game after starting off poorly. It was the double-strike from Wanindu Hasaranga that brought Kings back into the game. After that, they started creating pressure on Galle Gladiators' batters and that induced two run outs of Hafeez and Mendis, which almost sealed the game for them. As the required run rate started creeping up, wickets kept falling and in the end, it was Jaffna Kings who came out on top.
When you are chasing a total of over 200, a good start is almost imperative. Danushka Gunathilaka made sure that they got that, as he hammered a fifty off just 19 balls. But he departed soon after that as Galle lost two wickets in one over. But runs continued to flow at a brisk rate and Galle were well in the game till the 14th over. But some sloppy running between the wickets allowed Jaffna Kings to come back into the game and after the wicket of Mendis, it became difficult for other batters to match the required rate. In the end, they have fallen short of the ultimate glory in this summit clash of the Lanka Premier League, 2021.
JAFFNA KINGS ARE THE CHAMPIONS OF LANKA PREMIER LEAGUE, 2021! They defeated Galle Gladiators in the summit clash of the last season and have again emerged victorious when it mattered the most. Jaffna Kings dominated the whole tournament and are rightly crowned the champions again. Galle Gladiators have played well to get to this stage but have finally lost to Jaffna Kings in the fourth game between these two sides this season. Jaffna Kings win by 23 runs and it is Thisara Perera who will lift the trophy once again.

Isuru Udana looks to go downtown but it goes off the toe end in the air towards long on. Shoaib Malik there, settles under it and takes a good catch.
