Nellai Royal Kings beat Ba11sy Trichy by 8 wickets (D/L method)

Right then, that's all from this game. This brings an end to the league phase of this competition. The playoffs of the 2023 Tamil Nadu League commence with Qualifier 1 taking place on the 7th of July between Kovai and Dindigul at the Salem Cricket Foundation Stadium. The first ball will be bowled at 7.15 pm IST (1.45 pm GMT). As always, you can join us early for the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!
Ajitesh G is the Player of the Match for his unbeaten knock of 56 runs from 29 balls.
Earlier in the game, after Nellai won the toss and opted to bowl first, Trichy were rocked early, losing K Rajkumar and T Saran cheaply. The arrival of rain at the end of the 5th over meant Trichy's momentum was hampered a bit. Despite wickets falling at the other end, Jafar Jamal stood firm for his side. He unleashed himself all over the park, only to fall four runs short of the three-figure mark. Jamal's innings bailed his side out of trouble and helped them reach a competitive total. Sandeep Warrier was Madurai's most economical bowler on the night and was impressive with the new ball.
On the other hand, Trichy's dismal campaign has come to an end with yet another defeat. Ganga Sridhar Raju-led side exit the tournament with no wins on the board. After an impressive effort with the bat in the first innings, Trichy were unable to back it up with the ball. They did manage to dismiss the two Nellai openers early but they leaked a lot of runs. The wet conditions made matters worse for their bowlers who found it tough to grip the ball. There were simply blown away by the onslaught by Ajitesh G. Easwaran K was the positive for them with the ball accounting for both Nellai openers.
Nellai have absolutely steamrolled their way to victory this evening! It has been a confidence-gaining victory for Arun Karthik and Co. before the playoffs. Coming to the chase, due to rain, Nellai were set a revised target of 130 in 16 overs. They were off to the best possible start with a 15-run opening over. Arun Karthik and Laxmesha Suryaprakash were quick to get off the blocks but could not carry on. However, Ajitesh G ensured that his side were ahead of the required run rate. He kept finding boundaries at will and found an able alley in the Impact Player Nidhish Rajagopal. With an unbeaten 87-run stand, the two Nellai batters helped their side cruise home.
