This will begin at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT), while the second game between Oval Invincibles Women and Southern Brave Women will be played at 7 pm IST (1.30 pm GMT). But as you all know you can join us early for the build-up. Till then, take care and goodbye.
Ellyse Perry wins the Player of the Match award for her half-century. She says watching Sophie Devine bat alongside was incredible and she helped her a lot. Mentions it was a great game of crcket. Adds it was a very competitive game with the way Welsh put up a solid fight in their chase. Adds they have got a wonderful support staff and its a great environment in the team. The fans have also shown wonderful support.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
Earlier in the innings, Birmingham Phoenix Women were under the gun straightaway after losing two quick wicket but then Sophie Devine put her foot on the gas and added some crucial runs on the board to take her side to safer shores. Later, Ellyse Perry contributed with her fifty and added some impetus to the scoreboard alongside Sophie Molineux. During the chase, no batter was able to build on their solid starts for Welsh Fire Women and that's where they lost the game.
Birmingham Phoenix Women would be very pleased with the effort that their bowlers put in. The spells from Issy Wong, Sophie Molineux and Georgia Elwiss won the game for the bowling side. Abtaha Maqsood worked her magic and bowled miserly. They kept it tight when Welsh were scoring freely and also managed to pick wickets. Overall, Birmingham were the better side and they deserve the win.
Welsh Fire Women put a solid fight but were unable to get over the line here. Hayley Matthews, Rachael Haynes and Tammy Beaumont all played decent knocks but they needed to kick on which they weren’t able to. Regular wickets meant the task just kept getting difficult and in the end they’ve fallen short but not by a big margin.
Birmingham Phoenix Women start their season with a win under the new leadership of Sophie Devine. A really good effort by Welsh Fire Women but we always felt Birmingham had at least 15-20 runs more than Welsh would have liked. They needed someone to go big but that did not happen.

OUT! RUN OUT! Katie George slips during the charge for her second run and it has costed them dearly. It is a length ball, on off. Katie George heaves it to deep mid-wicket. Amy Jones collects the ball and takes the bails off. The umpire takes it upstairs and the final decision is out. Fi Morris is the new batter in.
Is that a run out? The umpire takes it upstairs to confirm. The replays confirm that Fran Wilson is short of her crease.
