Right then, despite the delay and the shortened game, we have witnessed quite a contest. Bangladesh finally break their duck on this tour and get a ‘W’ against their name to continue their dominance over West Indies in the ODI format. West Indies need to find a way to end their ODI losing streak against Bangladesh. The 2nd ODI will be played at the same venue on Wednesday, the 13th of July at 7.00 pm IST (1.30 pm GMT). But do join us in advance for the build-up. Till then, goodbye and take care!
Tamim Iqbal, the Bangladesh captain, says that the wicket was difficult for both teams but the best part for him was winning the toss, and he is very pleased with the bowling effort. On being asked about his wicket, he says that it's not a blame game, nobody does this intentionally but he is happy as in the end, they won the game. Mentions that they still have to apply themselves better. On Nasum Ahmed, he says that he was amazing, he did not disappoint here and he bowled really well.
Nicholas Pooran the skipper of West Indies says that the runs were not enough on the board, but it was not easy to score runs. Adds that the last wicket partnership gave them a chance, and put a defendable total on the board. Mentions that they should have played well in the Powerplay. On Gudakesh Motie he says that he bowled well, he is happy with his performance and he hopes he does well in the future as well.
Mehidy Hasan is the Player of the Match. He says that he is really happy with the performance. Adds that they have not had good enough time for practice due to rain but this win was very pleasing. Mentions that he is happy with the conditions as well, he tried to bowl in the right areas and that's why he was rewarded. Says that they have done well in this format, they did well against South Africa as well and they will want to carry this forward in the next game as well.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
Bangladesh on the other hand have won this game mainly because of their bowlers who controlled proceedings throughout the first half of the game. The bowlers we right on the money in the first innings. They dismissed West Indies for a below-par score of 149. However, they will be hoping for more support from the fielders who dropped multiple catches to extend the West Indies innings. In reply, they had useful contributions from Tamim Iqbal and Najmul Hossain Shanto and in the end, Mahmudullah top-scored with an unbeaten 41 to take the Bengal Tigers home. In the end, it's been a complete performance from Bangladesh, this is just what they need to boost their confidence after suffering defeats in the shortest format.
The hosts will be thoroughly disappointed by their overall display. Gudakesh Motie is the only one who bowled with any sort of rhythm as the rest of the bowlers lacked control and conceded runs freely. They did manage to grab an early wicket but they failed to capitalize on that. Nicholas Pooran will however be unhappy with how they performed with the bat. A few more runs on the board and things could have been different. Still, a few positives to take from this game. Gudakesh Motie on his debut was impressive and that certainly is a big boost for them. Also, the partnership for the last wicket for West Indies was another plus.
Bangladesh have finally picked up a victory on this tour and as expected it is in the format that they have been having the best time in! In the end, it was a comprehensive win as they got there with 6 wickets in hand and just under 10 overs left in the bag. Take this for a stat - West Indies have not beaten Bangladesh in an ODI game since December 2018 and have now lost 9 matches in a row. Barren run.
