Match 23, Wellington, March 24, 2022, 03:30 AM

South Africa Women
61/4(10.5ov)
West Indies Women

Match Abandoned

Commentry
The rain gods weren't ready to stay away for this game and the inevitable happened. The rain gods had the final say in this match. Both the teams go home with 1 point in their kitty. A blessing in disguise perhaps for West Indies as they now end with 7 points and India Women need to win their clash against South Africa Women. If they fail to do so, West Indies Women go through. If India wins then West Indies Women will pray that England lose a game. South Africa won't be much worried as they have now booked their semi final berth. We will be back on 25th March, Friday for yet another clash where Australia Women taken on Bangladesh Women. That match will begin at 3.30 am IST (10 pm GMT, previous day). But you know the drill right? The build-up will begin much in advance. Do join us for that. Meanwhile, England Women vs Pakistan Women is going on right now where the former needs only 106 runs to win to strengthen their position in the points table. Do switch tabs to enjoy the coverage from that game. Until then, ta da!
Stafanie Taylor, the West Indies Women skipper, is up for a chat. She says that she is not happy as the game could not go on. Adds, it is also something which isn’t in their control. Mentions that the bowlers were on the money. Also says that Henry really enjoy bowling against South Africa, because she just keep picking up wickets against the opposition. Informs that they will keep the popcorn ready to watch the game between India and South Africa. On the top 4 qualification, she says that it is not in their control, but will hope it goes their way.
Sune Luus, the South Africa Women skipper, is up for a chat. She says that she is really excited and obviously really happy to be in the semifinals. Tells that with the rain today it wasn't ideal to wait and then go out there. Mentions that they didn't have the best of starts but there are still a lot of batters who'd want to get some runs, Lizelle Lee at the top and our number 3 as well. States that Mignon played well today and is one of our most important batters. Adds that hopefully, she'll continue that form going forward. On asked if Masabata Klaas would be fit for the semis, she says that she should be fine. Informs that it's been a dream for them for so long but we need to get through the semifinals.
With the weather not relenting, the final conclusion is that the match has been CALLED OFF. Not the end any team would’ve wanted after getting on to the field after a four-hour delay. Wellington was not a friendly place to play cricket in the morning, with persistent rainfall. The game had to be reduced to 26 overs each, but even this was too much to ask for from the rain gods.
Update - 8.36 am IST (3.06 am GMT) - Both the umpires converge and have decided that the drizzle is too heavy for the players to continue. The players have been asked to walk off the field and the covers come in as well. Let's hope we are not in for another long delay.
